Walk of Shame
"The slipp'ry slope to Hell is paved
Without the goad of horn-ed beasts
But good intents of northern states
And hedonistic western heat."
Then south, they gathered, to cling tight
To morals strict and deeply held
So precious seemed their pride's delight
Entrusted to their Lover's spells.
Some awful things oft sweetly start
As humbly as a shepherd's call.
But hungry crowds want seas to part
And then, one king to rule them all.
'Tis this slow death that comes unseen
Availed by phrase of southern charm.
The fertile hearts as fields of green
Are tilled and plowed as cattle, farm'd.
A brand, some food, then sent away,
You fit in nicely with the heard,
"Beliefs unchallenged, so we'll stay,
And I just love this pastor's words!"
But now the one who leads the flock,
Consumed with comfort and himself,
Devises ways to keep you still;
Dependent on you for his wealth.
Seeker friendly aims to please
With shallow platitudes of rust.
Consolidating golden geese;
Concentrating on a campus.
Alas, if this could be the end!
You'd learn and live a better way.
But then the leaders bring their friends
And using fear to make you stay.
"You will have power, soon enough,
If you have me to please your case.
We'll bring the promised last to us,
But first, please help me win my race."
Your money, votes, are all the same
They'll fill you up to milk you dry.
Disguised as God, they use His name
To hold you down while they're on high.
These efforts to maintain a life
Pretending you're better than some,
Will only help you welcome lies
From those who wish to keep you numb.
Now grab your shoes and hit the street
In time you'll find the shame will melt.
The only thing they get to keep:
Your notch, now on their Bible Belt.
